PSG vs Inter Milan Champions League final 2025 match preview

20/05/2025

Inter Milan and PSG would meet in the final of the Champions League this season after fighting their way to the last day of the competition.

Both clubs have previously reached the final at least once in the last five years and lost, so one will finally win the coveted trophy this term.

Inter has found its way into the final a little bit more under the radar, and they have been fantastic in some matches.

Until their semifinal against Barcelona, most fans and neutrals did not take them seriously, apart from those who bought other Inter Milan tickets.

PSG made a name for themselves in the final games of the league phase, beating Manchester City and reaching the final by beating Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal.

Because they have faced and beaten Premier League teams, people who buy PSG tickets will argue that they had a harder run to the final.

The Parisians have never won the competition, while Inter Milan were European champions in 2010, so this is a game between clubs that want to win it.

It will be an interesting game for neutrals to watch, but their fans would find it tough to watch if their team underperforms, and exciting if their players are the best on the night.

The road to the final

Inter Milan was one of the best teams in the competition during its league phase. They finished inside the top four as one of three clubs that had 19 points, behind Liverpool.

Inter Milan was in fantastic form during that phase of the competition, with some stunning performances and important results.

They were competing at a high level and lost just one game in the league phase, just like every other club above them.

In the quarterfinals, they faced Feyenoord, a simple team on paper. However, to call the Dutchmen easy teams to beat makes no sense when you consider they had eliminated AC Milan in the previous round.

Inter would then beat Bayern Munich in a closely contested game between the top German and Italian sides.

PSG lost Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid in the summer, losing the player who had led them to success in the last few seasons.

Very few people had expected them to do well this term after his departure, but Luis Enrique vowed to create a better team and has kept his word.

Without Mbappe as a focal point in their attack, PSG is a much stronger team now, as they are not reliant on anyone to make things happen.

However, in the group stage, they struggled with his absence, and they nearly finished outside the playoff spots.

They eventually did make the playoff and have been fantastic since then. Their playoff opponents was Brest and we wrote off the quality of the opponent after their fantastic win.

However, PSG faced Liverpool in the quarterfinals, and they eliminated the Premier League champions at Anfield.

They would then beat Aston Villa and Arsenal on their way to this final, and they seem like favourites to be European champions.

However, they are facing an Inter Milan team that seems really difficult to play against and it will be interesting to see who wins, with fans who buy the tickets for this game just looking forward to a fantastic game of football.

What happened to the favourites?

At the start of the season, we named some clubs as the favourites to win the competition.

The names went from serial winners Real Madrid to Spanish giants Barcelona and the likes of Bayern Munich.

Interestingly, we also predicted that fans who support Inter Milan and PSG could watch their team win the competition this season.

Both clubs are now in the final, so our prediction remains spot on. In just a few days, the supporters of one of these clubs will have a great time.

While it is easy to say the other favourites were not good enough to reach this stage of the competition, the reality is that the contests have been very close.

Inter and PSG deserve to be in the final and one of them would deservedly be champions in the summer, while other favourites can work hard to win the competition this season.

Match preview

At the time of writing this, Inter Milan is second in the league standings in Serie A, but they are just one point away from winning the crown with one game left.

Napoli has the advantage, but when this game kicks off, Inter will either be Italian champions or finish second.

However, they will be prepared because Inter is a different team when they play in Europe, no matter how their result are in domestic competitions.

PSG, on the other hand, has already won the French league title and will be able to rest their main men for the final game of the season.

Both clubs will have almost the same number of days to rest before the game kicks off, but will PSG have an advantage?

In the last few weeks, PSG has taken its foot off the gas in domestic games and has lost three of its last ten matches, two of which have been in the league.

However, in Europe, they are in top shape, having won both games against Arsenal. They have four wins from their last five European games, with their only defeat coming in the second leg against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Inter Milan also seems to have paid closer attention to Champions League success in the last few weeks, even though they also want to retain their Scudetto crown.

Inter lost three consecutive games at the end of April, all of which were in April and one of them kicked them out of Coppa Italia.

However, since then, they have been unbeaten in five games, winning three, including eliminating Barcelona from the Champions League.

Inter has hit top form at the right time and will have even more confidence if they win the Serie A crown.

If they fail to win that trophy, they will also be angrier and hungrier to win the UCL, making this game a match to watch.

H2H

These clubs have met five times before now, with PSG winning three of those encounters and Inter winning just once.

However, the Italians will not be worried about that record because the games were all non-competitive, so it cannot be used to measure the difference between the clubs.

Is Serie A stronger than Ligue 1?

One argument that fans enjoy is whether one top-flight competition is stronger than the other.

This final will bring back some of those arguments, and fans would be eager to see which competition’s representative comes out on top.

However, as things stand, the Serie A is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and it is stronger than Ligue 1 on paper.

PSG is an outlier, but it is not such a surprise because it is the richest club in the country and has more money than the richest in some big leagues.

They have the clear financial advantage and will have to prove they also have a tactical advantage on the international scene when it matters.
