Best free agents clubs can still sign after the transfer window close

07/09/2025

The transfer window has now closed, and teams will be looking to make the most of their best players.

Every club in Europe had the chance to improve their squad with the best players that they could afford, and we watched as teams like Arsenal rebuilt their squad and made it a dream team for Mikel Arteta.

Liverpool is another club that did well on the market as they seem to be building a Galactico team this summer.

This promises to be one of the most competitive seasons in the Premier League, with their biggest teams splashing the cash on players.

The quality of the league is improving, and the new players have made more fans worldwide buy Premier League tickets.

Manchester City and Manchester United have also bolstered their squad, with Chelsea also delivering terrific performances on the market.

Liverpool remains the main favourite to win the league crown, having won it last year and also improved their squad.

The Reds know they will face serious competition for the crown from other clubs, but are there any teams that have not strengthened their squad enough?

Although the transfer window has closed, several free agents remain unattached and can be signed to fill the gaps in their respective teams' rosters.

In this article, we discuss some of the best free agents on the market who can still find new clubs in the next few weeks.

Sergio Reguilón

Reguilon left Tottenham at the end of last season when his contract at the club expired following a series of loan spells away from the club.

The Spaniard is still 28, which means he should be at the peak of his career now, but since the 2022/2023  season, he has been unsettled.

That was just his third season as a Tottenham player, and he was sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid, where he made just 11 league appearances for the Spanish side.

Further loan spells at Manchester United and Brentford did not improve his game time, but he can still deliver for a midtable club.

Hakim Ziyech

Former Chelsea man, Ziyech, is one of the top free agents that clubs can still add to their squad this season.

He played for Al-Duhail in Qatar last season, and the Moroccan is 32 now, but he can still deliver in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Injuries have played a role in his decline apart from his age, but Ziyech is one of the finest technicians on the pitch and can still play in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen played in at least 20 matches for Manchester United last season, and he is still playing for the Denmark national team and delivering.

It is a surprise that no Premier League club has tried to sign the midfielder in the last few months because he clearly can still deliver at the top level.

Now that the transfer window has closed, he should get a call from a club from one of the top leagues in the world, apart from Serie A, where he is banned from playing because of his medical condition.

Rick Karsdorp

Karsdorp competed for PSV last season and was a part of their team that won the league crown, so he is still a valuable player.

The former AS Roma defender is also still just 30 and should do well at one of the clubs in a top-five league.

His off-field problems and previous falling out with his manager could work against him, but he remains one of the most valuable players available on the free market this summer.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

What an unlucky player Tomiyasu is, as injuries ruined his Arsenal career, forcing them to terminate his contract at the start of this season.

The Japanese defender is still just 26, so it is hard to believe that he has kicked a ball for the last time as a footballer.

Arsenal grew impatient with his injury problems, but that should not end his playing career because he is simply too good.

After playing just one match last season, he needs to get back to full fitness first, but smart teams should be thinking about handing him another chance in the game.

Michail Antonio

Following his serious car accident last season, it is a miracle that Antonio can even be considered a player till now.

People have not survived injuries like the one he had, but the striker returned to action and has been playing for Jamaica after West Ham decided not to hand him a new deal.

Antonio is a very lovely character, and the striker surely deserves a chance to return to competitive football this season as a player who can even do well at a Champions League team.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Besiktas tore up the contract of Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, but he remains a good player who can do well in the Championship or even the Premier League.

He will always be remembered for his superb spell at Liverpool, which included winning the Premier League and Champions League.

The attacker will do well if given another chance in England, although injuries are a part of why some teams would avoid him.

Lorenzo Insigne

It came as a little surprise that Insigne terminated his contract at Toronto FC because we knew he would certainly miss playing in Europe.

The attacker did not enjoy much success in the MLS, and he is now available on the market, but he is struggling to find a new club.

The Napoli cult hero is one of the players that many clubs should be looking to add to their squad, but he is already 34, so his options are limited, especially among the top clubs.

Josh Brownhill

Brownhill would be surprised that he has not found a new club now, after leaving Burnley in the summer.

Despite firing them to success in the Championship last season with 18 goals and 6 assists, he decided to leave the club.

However, he has not found a new team, which will surprise most fans who watched him play for the Clarets last season.

We expect him to find a new club in the coming weeks, as he is simply too talented to remain a free agent.

Dele Alli

Most football fans were happy when Cesc Fabregas’ Como signed Alli last season, but he played only a few seconds for them as he was sent off in those first few seconds back on the pitch.

Since then, he has not played, and his contract has been terminated. Will another club take a chance on the former Tottenham tickets best-seller?
