Which coach can replace Igor Tudor at Juventus?

Juventus has just sacked Igor Tudor, and that means the Bianconeri have been with three managers in the last two years and two coaches since March.

It is not what a top club like the Bianconeri would want to be associated with, and every season they seem to be starting over with a new manager.

Juve is still paying a price for their decision to sack Max Allegri in 2019 after the manager had won them five consecutive league crowns and reached the final of the Champions League twice during the same period.

That Juve squad was the last world-class squad they had, and they began to tear it apart to rebuild over the years.

It keeps getting worse for the Old Lady and has now resulted in the sacking of yet another manager.

When Tudor came on board, very few people were convinced that he was good enough for the role, but he was the manager who agreed to take over from Thiago Motta in mid-season.

This explains why they wanted to replace him with Antonio Conte in the summer, a coach who would have made more fans buy Juventus tickets.

However, the gaffer opted to stick around at Napoli, leaving Juve with no choice but to keep Tudor for a full season.

When did Juventus’ decline begin?

By the summer of 2019, Juve had just finished their first season with Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad.

Although he did not want the superstar, Allegri made the most of his presence and Juve won the Scudetto with 11 points.

Ronaldo scored 21 league goals for them and seemed to be in fine shape with the system, but the club surprisingly opted to sack Allegri and bring Maurizio Sarri home from Chelsea.

Sarri had won the Europa League that summer, and Juve believed he could win the Champions League with their current squad.

That is where their problems began, as he nearly lost the Scudetto crown that season and did not do well in the Champions League.

By the 2020/2021 season, Juve was no longer inside the top two in Serie A and lost the league crown to Inter Milan under Andrea Pirlo.

Juve fired Pirlo and brought Allegri back to correct their mistake, but his next three seasons at the club failed to stop the decline before he was sacked in 2024.

Did Igor Tudor stand a chance

Like we pointed out earlier, fans who always buy Serie A tickets did not necessarily think Tudor was right for the Juve job.

Olympique Marseille is probably the biggest team he has managed before Juve asked him to return to the club and lead their team.

The biggest mistake Juve made in the summer

In the last transfer window, Juve worked hard to back Tudor with some of the best players on the market, and he was hardly a demanding manager.

The Croatian seemed prepared to work with whichever player the men in black and white provided for him.

That should have sent a signal to the club that he might not be the right man for the job, but Juve seemed to like his approach because they could impose players on him.

The best managers often demand players who fit their system, and if Juve is to win the league this season, they will need a coach who knows what he wants.

Not spotting that as a red flag in the summer was a big mistake, but it is not the only one the Bianconeri made.

Juve should have also stood by their decision not to keep Tudor beyond the end of last term and work hard to find a new coach.

Which managers are best placed to replace him

Roberto Mancini

Euro 2020 winner, Mancini, was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, but the deal broke down, and he could bring success back to Juve.

Having won the league in Italy and England, he could be the best man for the job.

Luciano Spalletti

Spalletti won the Serie A with Napoli in 2023 before resigning, so he knows what it means to manage a top club, and we expect him to do well in Turin if he gets the job.

His spell as Italy manager was not successful, but in club football, he has a fine reputation and might be perfect for the role.

Raffaele Palladino

Palladino has been tipped to manage Juve in the future since he coached Monza to success over the Old Lady.

He managed Fiorentina last season before leaving them at the end of the season, and we expect him to do well if he becomes the Juve coach.

However, he is far less experienced than the other two coaches and might be overlooked for the role for that reason.
