Which Premier League club has a chance of surviving relegation?
One of the places where the Premier League shows that it truly is the most competitive league in the world is in the relegation zone.
England’s top flight welcomes three clubs and loses the bottom three teams at the end of each season, and it has become harder for newly promoted teams to stay in the division.
The Premier League’s big boys compete at the top of the table, and most of them never worry about relegation or even missing out on European football.
In midtable, we have clubs constantly trying to gatecrash the Premier League’s top four, and in the last two seasons, two teams have succeeded.
Newcastle finished above Liverpool to qualify for the Champions League in the 2023/2024 term and Aston Villa finished last season inside the UCL places and are competing instead of Chelsea or Manchester United.
While the Villans could suffer from the Champions League curse this term, their achievement at the end of last season proved that teams can do the unthinkable.
However, there are other midtable clubs who are more preoccupied with not getting pushed into the relegation dogfight at any point during the season.
They work hard to finish in the midtable, and the way some teams play, they are almost guaranteed to finish far from relegation trouble.
However, even though we are less than 15 games into the new league season, some clubs have spent most of the campaign around the relegation dogfight.
Their fans still buy Premier League tickets because they are hopeful of seeing their teams remaining in the competition beyond this season.
The reality is that three teams will be relegated at the end of this term, and there is a good chance that three of those struggling at the moment will be relegated.
In this article, we cover the struggling clubs and rate their chances of survival between 1 and 10, 10 being they have a good chance of surviving, while one means they will almost certainly go down.
Southampton
Soton manager Russel Martin has insisted on playing good football even though the results have not come as often as they would have liked.
Among the promoted teams in the last campaign, his side had collected the fewest points after 13 games, which should push him to consider a new approach.
The club’s board has contemplated sacking him so many times and continue to back him to turn things around.
Soton is a brave team, and in their matches against Liverpool and Arsenal, they proved to be very stubborn opponents.
However, Martin must make some changes to his team’s game plan, otherwise, supporters who buy Southampton tickets will not watch Premier League football next term.
Survival chance: 5/10
Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town gained two promotions in two seasons to return to the Premier League after two decades, and their manager, Kieran McKenna, is doing well in the top flight.
It is tough for any club that gains promotion to the Premier League to survive nowadays, so the results have not been as they would have wanted.
However, Ipswich are becoming a difficult team to beat. They won away at Tottenham for their first victory in the top flight in two decades before earning a draw against Manchester United.
They have done well against the big teams, but they keep losing to opponents whom you would expect them to beat.
Suppose they do not start getting results in matches against teams like Leicester City, Brentford and Everton. In that case, it will be difficult to give Premier League football to Ipswich Town tickets buyers next term.
However, because of their fine form in tough games, in the second half of the season they could get the wins they need to survive the drop.
Survival chance: 6/10
Wolves
Are Wolves the most unlucky team in the Premier League over the last two seasons? Last term, they saw VAR blunders cost them so many points.
This term, they have hardly been rewarded for the hard work they put in on the pitch during matches.
They spent much of the start to the season as the rock bottom team as they continued to lose games despite playing better than their opponents.
However, in the last few weeks their fortune has turned for the best and they have been doing much better than they previously did.
After 13 games in the league, they are just three points away from safety, and everyone who buys their match tickets can feel more positive about their chances of getting out of trouble in the second half of the season.
Gary O’Neil is a good manager, and as his team has started getting out of trouble, they have a good chance of surviving relegation now.
Survival chance: 7/10
Everton
Everton fans cannot wait to go through a season when their team is not in the mix to be relegated from the Premier League.
They are set to move to a new stadium, but they might be using it to play in the Championship next term, even though Everton ticket holders would disagree with that point.
Sean Dyche has managed to keep his job over the last two seasons even though he has hardly improved the team, and the Toffees are in relegation trouble again this term.
Everton is flirting with danger, and time is running out for them to win games consistently and move out of the relegation zone for good.
They have just two wins from their opening 13 league games, and winning more games would be required to stop the likes of Ipswich Town and Wolves from overtaking them.
Survival chance: 6/10
Crystal Palace
Palace ended last season in fantastic fashion, and most people expected them to flourish in this campaign, the first full season for their manager, Oliver Glasner.
He arrived in England after a fine spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, which included winning the Europa League, and started life in London well.
However, his team has struggled to replicate the form they showed at the backend of last season this term.
It is clearly connected to their player recruitments over the summer as Palace has failed to replace Michael Olise, who left them for Bayern Munich.
They made some poor signings, including Eddie Nketiah, who is showing that he truly was not good enough for Arsenal.
These underperforming stars are a reason why fans who buy Crystal Palace tickets have rarely been happy since the start of this season.
However, Glasner’s team has the best chance to beat the drop among the teams around the relegation spots now, and they have already started showing great form.
Survival chance: 8/10
West Ham
One of the most baffling decisions made by any club in the Premier League at the end of last season was West Ham replacing David Moyes with Julen Lopetegui.
Although Moyes was a successful coach on their bench and he even won a European trophy for them, he was never respected by the Hammers.
They did not like his style of play and replaced him with the more fashionable Lopetegui, but the Spaniard is struggling.
He did well in Spain, but his time at Wolves was a disaster, yet the Hammers thought he could get their team to play better football and find success at the London Stadium.
They have been terrible to watch by everyone who buys West Ham tickets, and if Lopetegui is not sacked soon, they could be in deeper relegation trouble by the second half of the season.
However, with the quality of the players in their squad, the Hammers can survive the drop if a new manager comes.
Survival chance: 7/10
