What we have learned from the Premier League so far

21/10/2025

The 2025/2026 Premier League season has been one of the finest in recent times, as Arsenal and Liverpool look to ensure that they challenge again.

As the defending champions, Liverpool is expected to finish this season at the top of the league table again.

The Reds are stocked with some of the world’s best players, thanks to a superb summer which saw them begin to build a Galactico squad for Arne Slot.

However, their new stars are taking too much time to get in tune with the others they met at the club, and Arsenal could make this their year.

The Gunners last won the league title in 2004, but 21 years later, they seem like the strongest and most consistent team in the league.

The club’s summer business has helped Mikel Arteta to assemble a dream squad at the Emirates.

The Spaniard knows all eyes are on his team to perform, and they will hardly find an acceptable excuse if they fail to win the league crown this term.

This has been one of the finest seasons in the league for most teams, and it will interesting to see which team will be champions among those who have sold Premier League tickets.

In the first few games of the season, we have learnt a few things and we discuss them in this article.

Arsenal’s squad depth is not a myth

While Liverpool sold some players before buying others to improve their squad, Arsenal simply added new stars to the team.

The Gunners have been one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League in the last three seasons, finishing second in each of those terms, so they did not have to sell.

They needed just a few wins and goals to be champions, and if their key men have all stayed fit in each of those terms, they could have won the league.

With that in mind, they ensured they invested in squad depth in the last transfer window, and it is paying off for them.

Since the start of this season, they have lost William Saliba, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka, among other key stars to injury, yet the team has not felt their absence very much each time.

These players have been replaced by other key men, and this has kept the team in great shape, bringing in wins as expected.

Many people have not believed they truly have depth, but from the way they have easily replaced unavailable key stars, it is clear to see that they have it now.

Liverpool might have signed another Andy Caroll

In the winter of 2011, Liverpool broke their transfer record to sign Andy Caroll from Newcastle United after he made a superb start to the season.

The striker was a wanted man and Liverpool chose him to replace Fernando Torres who had forced through a move to Chelsea on the same day.

Caroll turned out to be one of the biggest flops in Liverpool history and some fans worry that Alexander Isak could become another Caroll.

The Swede is currently the most expensive player in the Premier League after Liverpool broke the record to sign him, but at the moment he seems like a misfit.

He has made a terrible start to the season, even though he was the second top scorer in the EPL last season.

Hugo Ekitike has been a better striker, and as things stand, Isak is on course to become yet another Caroll on the books of Liverpool.

Manchester United will have a good season

Manchester United seems to be clicking into gear at just the right time, and it is hard not to think that they will have a good season in this campaign.

The Red Devils have offloaded some unwanted players in their squad and the new stars are buying into the plans of Ruben Amorim.

Every fan that buys Manchester United tickets this season has watched a team that is full of confidence, especially in matches against the top teams.

Their win against Liverpool at Anfield showed that this United team is getting better with every game they play.

Amorim insists on his system, and his players are getting really good at playing in it. It will not be a surprise if they make the top four this term.

United has some of the best players in the EPL in their squad at the moment, so what was missing was the connection among them, and they seem to have found it in their last few matches.

Chelsea may need a new manager to reach the next level

After winning the Club World Cup and the Europa Conference League this year, Chelsea is naturally considered one of the teams that could win this Premier League title.

Enzo Maresca had a fantastic first season on their bench as their manager, and he has bought himself a lot of time on the bench with those first season success.

Chelsea now wants a major trophy like the Champions League or the EPL and the Italian might not be the manager to win those trophies.

Most of his players are inexperienced, and he is also a very inexperienced manager, which could limit how far the team can go in a long league season.

If Chelsea is serious about winning the EPL or UCL in the next few seasons, the Blues have to find a new manager who is far more experienced and probably has won one or both trophies before.

Haaland is Manchester City’s most important player

A team is made up of more than one player, but some teams depend on one player to get results. For Manchester City, that player is Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian has been in fantastic form over the last few weeks, and he no longer knows how not to score in a match.

The striker has always been reliable, but he has reached a new level and has been responsible for almost every goal City has scored this season.

They have scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season and Haaland has remarkably scored 11 of those goals.

That is more than 50% of their goals and it means without his goals, City would be in a terrible spot this term.

They pay him to score, but it seems City has now become reliant on the Norwegian who breaks records almost every week nowadays.

As the season continues, they will need other players to step up and score for them because relying too much on one star could be detrimental to their overall performance as a team.

Promoted clubs have learnt from the last sets

We might finally have a Premier League season where all the promoted teams stay up and others are relegated.

In the last few seasons, the teams that have been promoted to the Premier League’s top flight have found it really hard to stay.

This term, all three seems to have learnt well from the failure of the likes of Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

After eight league games, Sunderland is 7th on the league standings, while Burnley and Leeds are also not in the relegation zone.

As the season continues, it could get tougher for all of them, but so far, they have shown they are better than the teams who got promoted before them.
